Newtonmore vs Lovat

Report by The Strathy

Newtomore Won 5-0

Neil Stewart fired Newtonmore in front with an effort from close range in just the third minute against Lovat.  Norman Campbell fired in a rocket on the 20 minute mark to extend the lead and an Evan Menzies effort from a tight angle in the 43rd minute gave the Blue and Whites a 3-0 half time lead.

In the second period Stewart grabbed his second on 57 minutes before Fraser Mackintosh added the fifth in the 64th minute.  Lovat contributed well to an open game of shinty, but never found a way to penetrate Newtonmore's outstanding defence with Steven Macdonald once again outstanding at full-back.  He marshalled and organised his fellow defenders into a force that are second to none this term.  The quality of ball upfield and through the centreline - with Jamie Robinson playing a notable part - made things straightforward for the attack and even a number of substitutions made little noticeable difference.

Newtonmore manager PJ Mackintosh was quietly satisfied after the Lovat win: "I was pleased with the performance. We played some nice shinty particularly int he second half and took our goals well.  Craig Ritchie took a knock, but should be ok for this weekend.  The only injury doubt is Chris Sellar who is carrying an injury from our semi final win against Kinlochshiel.

Scorers for Newtonmore

Neil Stewart (3 & 57), Norman Campbell (20), Evan Menzies (43) & Fraser Mackintosh (64)
