Skye vs Newtonmore
Report by The Strathy
Newtomore Won 4-0
all-premiership tie, Newtonmore got off to the best possible
start after Glen Mackintosh gave t hem the lead with a
strike on just six minutes. With in-form Fraser MacKintosh
out of action, the mantle of chief striker fell to Menzies,
whose first half double on 26 and 39 minutes saw the league
champions establish a 3-0 lead at the turn.
In the second half, Skye managed to plug some of the gaps, but still could not prevent Menzies from completing his hat trick just after the hour. There was to be no more scoring.
Newtonmore manager PJ Mackintosh was satisfied with his team's performance againnst Skye as the Blue and Whites advanced to the next round of the RBS MacTavish Cup. He said "Skye did not stop competing and pressured us for parts of the game, but they lacked a cutting edge. Apart from a couple of lapses in concentration our defence was very quick to close them down, so they had very few chances. Owen Fraser in goal only had one save to make in the game and it was satisfying to keep a clean sheet for the fourth time this season".
Hat-trick hero Evan Menzies was full of praise for his team-mates creating the chances for him and particularly for veteran Norman Campbell. He said "he has been a revelation in his new midfield position. He seems to have so much time and rarely wastes a pass. he will be missed when he is laid up after surgery".
