February 2016 Newsletter

Pre Season
For the first time in many years our 1sts managed to get three practice games in February though the 2nds had to make do with just the one against Strathspey which they won 3 – 1.

The 1sts had a one sided game against Inverary which they won 9 – 0, a much closer tussle with Lochaber winning 2 – 1 and a comfortable 6 – 1 run out against Glasgow mid Argyll at the Open day. Our under 14s were well beaten 6 – 0 by Lochaber and the Primary 6/7 came third in their group at the 1st shinty finals in Fort William.

Open Day
Many thanks to everyone who donated home baking and helped on the day. The turn out was somewhat disappointing on a beautiful afternoon. Apart from the shinty match Rob had put on a very interesting memorabilia display. Alongside the Kennedy caman he had a photograph of the Invereshie team from the 1890s in which the Kennedy caman took centre stage.

Our first fixtures will be on Saturday 12th March as both our matches on 5th March have been cancelled to allow us to pay our respects on the sad passing of Carole Mackintosh.

On 12th March the 1sts will be at home to Glenurquhart.

Land Purchase Update
A slight delay has occurred due to the need to mark out the new land on the line where the fence will go. This is being done on Wednesday 2nd March and hopefully after that all the legal detail can be concluded.

Advertising Boards
An annual appeal that if you know of a business that would be prepared to take an ad board please get them signed up. The cost is £350 which includes the supply of the sign. Our charge has not increased in ten years so it is crucial that we have large numbers as that is how we make our profit. There is an option of paying by instalments of £150, £105 & £105.

Newtonmore 10 Mile Race
I realise that some of you are already volunteer marshals at this annual event which is on Saturday 19th March. Extra marshals are needed this year to ensure safety on the stretch of road from Lynchat to the A9 turn off which is busier due to the A9 roadworks.

If the shinty club can provide 4 new volunteers then we will receive a donation of £100 from the Business Association which organises this event. Please let me know if you could spare a couple of hours that morning.
