January 2017 Newsletter
A draft fixture list for the season is out, but there are a number of anomalies that we have asked the Camanachd Association to consider changing. It may not be finalised until just before the start of the season. Copies of the draft list will be available at the Eilan on Saturday. The 1sts first league game will probably be at home on March 4th v Lovat.
The following friendlies have been arranged:
4 Feb - 1sts v Lochaber home 13:00 / 2nds away to Lochaber
18 Feb - 1sts Inverness home 13:30 / 2nds away to Lochside Rovers
25 Feb - 1sts Caberfeidh home Open Day
The club is now the proud owner of a gazebo gifted by Jim Coyle. Many thanks to Bob Henderson for the help in showing us how to put it up and Graham Fraser for organising replacement parts and also colour coding all the poles and providing a diagram of how it should be erected. We look forward to making use of it this season.
In addition to our routine running costs, we need to raise £20400 to transform the new land into the Dr Johnny Cattanach Memorial Field. This year we also need a new sit on mower [£4k] and 100 tons of sand to be spread on the existing pitch [£3.75k] to help combat deterioration in patches. In order to help fund these projects we have already made 5 grant applications. We are also planning a number of new fund raising initiatives.
- We are looking for a couple of volunteers to sell 50/50 £1 raffle tickets on 1st team match days. 50% of the money will go to the winner and 50% to the club.
- We have fundraising jars available for you to put your spare silver coins in during the season in aid of the Dr Johnny Cattanach Memorial Field. These will be available this Saturday
- We hope to do a calendar again this year.
- We are intending doing a lunch or coffee morning in the village hall.
- We hope to persuade at least one of the Committee to do the hill race at the Highland Games and have a fundraising swep on their time.
A number of other new events are being planned for later in the season.
We have also put some information on the website about legacy giving.
In the meantime a lottery standing order is attached.
It is only £4.33/month for one ticket and you always have the chance of winning a major cash prize.
Safety at The Clubhouse
As mentioned last year we had identified a safety risk to players because of the slabs that ran along under the clubhouse. Many thanks to Rob Ritchie who has lifted all the slabs and spread over a ton of sand as the base for the matting which is being donated from the golf club.
Children's Risk Assessment
John Begg's review of risks to children on behalf of the club has already identified an immediate risk that cars are travelling at excess speed coming out the 30mph limit and also coming over the Spey Bridge. This is a potential danger to the children who cross the road to and from the Eilan, usually unaccompanied.
We have identified this risk to the Council and have asked for the 30mph limit to be moved beyond the Eilan; the provision of rumble strips; and a sign warning that children could be crossing the road.
There are still a number of match ball sponsorships left particularly for the 2nd team. The price is still £20.
There are also plenty of player sponsorships still available at £25 which Jazza is leading on firstname.lastname@example.org
As always it would be great if you could introduce the club to a business, charity or individual who would be interested in taking an advertising board at the Eilan. The price has been unchanged for over 10 years! It is £350 for three years including manufacture and display of the board. Paying by 3 yearly installments of £150, £105 & £105 is also an option.
