2018 Pre Season Matches including Open Day
Not a lot of matches have taken place, but the 2nds had a very good 4-3 win against a strong and robust Lochaber side and followed that up with a 2-2 draw with a mainly young Kingussie side.

The 1sts at last got some much needed practice on grass in a useful workout against Inverary on the Open Day on Saturday which was ultimately a comfortable 5 – 1 win though Inverary kept the score to zero during the first half. Perhaps due to the biting wind and the Scotland rugby game, there were not as many people there as in some previous years. However everyone enjoyed the hospitality which included home made soup, scones, cakes and a fair quantity of liquid refreshment.

The 1sts start their league campaign this Saturday away to Lovat who will be looking for revenge after we defeated tham in the Camanachd Cup final. The 2nds have a tough first match entertaining Aberdeen University who were strong challengers last season. The forecast is pretty poor so keep an eye on the website/face book in case the fixture is cancelled or reversed.

Dr Johnny Cattanach Memorial Field
What a transformation has taken place over the last month. The field was levelled at the gravel layer and most of the estimated 15000 tons of earth has now been returned and levelled. There will be an approx 10 metre wide roadway/parking strip up the clubhouse side of the new pitch and tracks round to the far side at either end. Any surplus soil will be stockpiled adjacent to the field for the remedial work we know we have to do on the main pitch.

In two months time Gavin Irons, the contractor, will come back and level the soil after settlement then plant the grass seed.

New Roadways
Many thanks to BAM Ritchie for the work on the roadways at the end of their contract. For those of you that have not been down to the ground the access road to the shed has been reinstated; there are wider roadways up as far as the clubhouse and on the visitors side of the field; plus there is now a level track along the top of the field.

Player/Coach Sponsorship
Many thanks to everyone who sponsored a player/coach. We are now looking at a possible new piece of kit which we will also stock as merchandise.

Match Ball Sponsorship
This is still £20. The only game left to sponsor is for the second team match against Glengarry. There may be additional home cup matches as the season progresses. Contact

Season tickets
The price for season tickets remains the same. Life members are £30 and non members are £36 with concessions at only £15 and £21 respectively. Admission to games without a season ticket is still £5 with concessions now £3 instead of £2.50.

As season ticket holders get into home cup matches half price there is a significant saving over the season especially if we have a repeat of 2017 with five 1st team home cup games.

New Merchandise
New childrens replica tops with sizes from age 3 are in stock and new shower proof jackets for ages 3-4 and 5-6 will arrive in a few weeks.

We also now have Camanachd Association shinty ball key rings at £2.50.

New adult shower proof jackets are now in stock. This is a Macron jacket selling at £49. In a few weeks time we will get O'Neills jackets which will cost £42. Whichever sells better will become our standard stock item!

Adult replica tops are now reduced to only £25, but these are only available in size XL. We have reduced the price of ladies polo shirts to £9.50.

Advertising Boards
We welcome another new advertising board sponsor in Jamie R Rodgers Funeral Services. Thanks to Tony Robinson and Fraser Mackintosh for the new design of backing board which we hope will be long lasting and easier maintenance.

We are going to be reviewing our prices as the cost of the boards has gone up, but it is currently only £350 for three years [£500 for large firms] with an option of paying in three installments, the same price as in 2006. Please spread the word.

Anyone who is wanting to help with coaching children must have done this course. You can book direct through the Highlife Highland website.

First Aid Course
The Community Sports Hub is trying to get a new course organised on behalf of a number of local sports clubs. If anyone is interested in attending could you let me know.

The club is always looking for new referees particularly to help with youth team and primary school games and this is an excellent way for former players to give something back to the sport. If you are interested the Camanachd Association will be putting on referee courses and the club will pay for your attendance.

Are you involved with another local communuty group? We would love to hear from you if you are interested in a joint fund raising event with the shinty club especially if you have a good idea!
